Scuba Equipment Maintenance

Scuba equipment maintenance is very important to do to ensure proper functionality and safety. Proper care of cleaning and repair is vital and necessary to keep your equipment in top performing condition and yet many divers (new and experienced divers alike) don't really know how to properly maintain their scuba gear. Attending a class on equipment maintenance would surely be a good start to learn the methods and techniques for the appropriate and proper care of your scuba gear. Keeping this in mind, there are some basics that divers should already be aware of.

Checking your hoses would be the first place to start. They should be kept clean to allow you to properly check them at all times. As you're checking them there should be no leaks or cracking. Hoses should also be free of wear and tear such as stretch marks or areas where they may have been rubbed or scraped.

Pay particular attention to your regulator. Remove the mouthpiece to inspect and clean it after each use. Check over the entire piece for any signs of wear and damage. You can also check your local dive shop for a class on regulator repair to ensure that it is always ready and allows you to know if something does go wrong.

Rinse and/or soak the rest of your gear in fresh water and then let it air dry before you put it away. Check the gear for wear and damage and get it repaired if needed before your next dive trip.

Equipment maintenance is a vital part of your scuba experience and safety and knowing the current condition of your equipment and keeping it well maintained would ensure you enjoy the sport for years to come.
